IBPS RRB Clerk Cutoff State-wise: Office Assistant Prelims 2025 and 2024
IBPS RRB Clerk (Office Assistant) prelims cutoffs by state for 2025 and 2024, how IBPS equates scores, and why each state has its own cutoff.

IBPS RRB Office Assistant (Multipurpose), usually called RRB Clerk, is a state-by-state recruitment. You apply for the Regional Rural Banks of one State or UT, and you compete for that state's vacancies. That is why its Prelims cutoff differs from state to state.
First, a word on where state-wise numbers come from.
How RRB Clerk Prelims is scored
These rules come from the IBPS notifications for CRP RRBs-XIV (2025) and XV (2026):
- Two tests: Reasoning (40 questions, 40 marks, 25 minutes) and Numerical Ability (40 questions, 40 marks, 20 minutes). That makes 80 marks in 45 minutes.
- Penalty: a quarter of the marks for each wrong answer. No penalty for a blank.
- Two cutoffs: you must clear a minimum score in both tests. IBPS then shortlists "an adequate number of candidates in each category, depending upon requirements" for Mains.
- One state: you pick one State or UT in your application, and you cannot change it later.
- Prelims is only a filter: final merit for Office Assistants uses Mains marks only.

What the state-wise numbers tell you
The gap between states is large. In 2025 the reported General cutoff ran from 58.25 in Karnataka to 77.50 in Punjab. Every state took a paper of the same pattern, yet the cutoffs were more than 19 marks apart.
A state can move a lot in one year. Rajasthan fell from 70.50 to 64.25. Bihar and Punjab each rose by 4.50. A single year's figure is a reference point, not a target.
Six states were above 73 in 2025. They were Punjab, West Bengal, Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, Maharashtra and Jharkhand. At the other end, Karnataka, Telangana and Tamil Nadu were in the low 60s or below.
Reported category figures are thin. The sites give few figures for OBC, EWS, SC and ST. In 2024, Assam, Bihar, Gujarat and Uttar Pradesh were reported with the same OBC cutoff as General. Check your own scorecard for your category.
Why each state has its own cutoff
The RRBs report their vacancies state by state, and you compete only with people who chose the same state. Each state has a different number of seats, a different number of applicants and a different spread of scores. IBPS shortlists enough candidates in each category to fill its requirements, so the score at which that happens differs by state. A state with few vacancies and many strong candidates ends up with a high cutoff. A state with more seats, or fewer applicants, ends up lower.
How normalisation works
RRB Clerk Prelims runs over several days. In 2025 the Office Assistant Prelims was scheduled for 6, 7, 13 and 14 December. Different shifts get different papers, so IBPS adjusts the scores. Its note on the 2025 Office Assistant Prelims sets out the method:
- Corrected score: the correct answers in each test, minus the penalty for wrong ones.
- Equated score: each shift's corrected scores are matched to a base paper, using the spread of scores across all the papers. The notification calls this the equi-percentile method. In plain terms, candidates at the same position in their own shift's results end up with similar scores.
- Rounding: scores are rounded to two decimal places.
Cutoffs are then applied in two stages: first on each test, then on the total where needed. So if your shift was harder than average, your equated score can be higher than your raw marks. If your shift was easier, it can be lower.

How to read your mock score
- Use your state's figure. A national average means nothing for RRB Clerk. Compare your mock score with the last two years for the state you applied to.
- Protect both tests. You need a minimum in Reasoning and in Numerical Ability. A strong Reasoning score cannot cover a weak Numerical Ability score.
- Build a margin. Aim for 5 to 8 marks above your state's latest reported figure, and hold it across several mocks.
- Watch accuracy. Each wrong answer costs 0.25, so it leaves you 1.25 marks behind a correct one. Our negative marking strategy guide explains when to leave a question.
- Remember your mock is a raw score. It has not been equated with other shifts, so treat it as a guide, not a prediction.
Practise on the real clock
Try IBPS RRB Full Mock 1. It uses the same two timers as the real exam: Reasoning for 25 minutes, then Numerical Ability for 20. The report shows your score and time in each test, so you can see which one needs work before December. More mocks are on the IBPS RRB page.

Frequently asked questions
Is the IBPS RRB Clerk cutoff state-wise?
Yes. You apply for the Regional Rural Banks of one State or UT, and vacancies are filled state by state, so each state ends up with its own cutoff for each category.
Which state had the highest RRB Clerk prelims cutoff in 2025?
As reported by coaching sites, Punjab had the highest General cutoff at 77.50 out of 80, followed by West Bengal at 77.00. These figures are not from an IBPS table.
Does IBPS publish the state-wise RRB Clerk cutoff?
IBPS publishes a note explaining how Prelims scores are worked out, but ibps.in has no public state-wise cutoff table. The state-wise figures that circulate are compiled by coaching sites.
Is there a sectional cutoff in IBPS RRB Clerk Prelims?
Yes. The IBPS notification says you must clear a minimum score in both Reasoning and Numerical Ability. We have not listed sectional figures because we could not confirm them from an official source.
Do RRB Clerk prelims marks count in the final merit list?
No. For Office Assistants, IBPS uses only Mains marks for the final merit list. Prelims only decides who goes to Mains.
When is IBPS RRB Clerk Prelims 2026?
IBPS's tentative calendar puts the Office Assistant Prelims on 6, 12 and 13 December 2026, and Mains on 30 January 2027.
