Quick answer

The JEE Main 2027 syllabus has not changed from 2026. NTA's official 2027 Paper 1 syllabus, released with the 2027 information bulletin in October 2026, has the same units and topics: 14 in Mathematics, 20 in Physics and 20 in Chemistry. NTA does not publish chapter weightage, so any weightage table is an estimate, not an official figure.

NTA has released the JEE Main 2027 information bulletin and the syllabus PDF on jeemain.nta.nic.in. The public notice inviting Session 1 applications is dated 24 October 2026. We read the 2027 Paper 1 (B.E./B.Tech) syllabus line by line against the 2026 PDF. The units and topics are the same. The only difference in the text is the year in the page headings.

This post lists every unit in the official syllabus, explains what "no change" means for your preparation, and covers chapter weightage, which NTA does not publish.

What changed in JEE Main 2027

ItemJEE Main 2026JEE Main 2027
Mathematics units1414, same topics
Physics units2020, same topics
Chemistry units2020, same topics
Questions in Paper 175 (20 MCQ + 5 numerical per subject)75, unchanged

The 2027 bulletin keeps +4 for a correct answer and −1 for a wrong one in both sections. Session 1 is on 20, 21, 22, 23, 24 and 28 January 2027, and Session 2 is on 2 to 7 April 2027.

So if you started with the 2026 syllabus, keep going. You do not need to add or drop any topic. Section 2.6 of the 2027 bulletin does not list topics. It points to the syllabus PDF on the NTA website, which is the document we compared. For the full topic-by-topic text, see our JEE Main syllabus page.

Mathematics: 14 units

  1. Sets, relations and functions
  2. Complex numbers and quadratic equations
  3. Matrices and determinants
  4. Permutations and combinations
  5. Binomial theorem and its simple applications
  6. Sequence and series
  7. Limit, continuity and differentiability
  8. Integral calculus
  9. Differential equations
  10. Coordinate geometry
  11. Three-dimensional geometry
  12. Vector algebra
  13. Statistics and probability
  14. Trigonometry

Mathematics has fewer units than the other two subjects, but some are large. Unit 10 alone covers the straight line, the circle and all three conic sections (parabola, ellipse and hyperbola). Unit 7 covers limits as well as differentiation, including applications such as maxima and minima. The current syllabus has no unit on mathematical induction, mathematical reasoning or linear programming. If an older book or coaching module includes them, you can skip those chapters for JEE Main.

Physics: 20 units

  1. Units and measurements
  2. Kinematics
  3. Laws of motion
  4. Work, energy and power
  5. Rotational motion
  6. Gravitation
  7. Properties of solids and liquids
  8. Thermodynamics
  9. Kinetic theory of gases
  10. Oscillations and waves
  11. Electrostatics
  12. Current electricity
  13. Magnetic effects of current and magnetism
  14. Electromagnetic induction and alternating currents
  15. Electromagnetic waves
  16. Optics
  17. Dual nature of matter and radiation
  18. Atoms and nuclei
  19. Electronic devices
  20. Experimental skills

Unit 20 is easy to overlook. It lists 18 experiments, from the vernier calipers and screw gauge to the metre bridge, the resonance tube and the Zener diode characteristic curve. You are expected to know the basic method and observations of each, which usually means knowing what is measured, how, and which graph is plotted. Unit 19 is limited to semiconductor diodes, LEDs, photodiodes, solar cells, the Zener diode and basic logic gates.

Chemistry: 20 units

The official syllabus splits Chemistry into three parts.

Physical chemistry (units 1 to 8): some basic concepts in chemistry; atomic structure; chemical bonding and molecular structure; chemical thermodynamics; solutions; equilibrium; redox reactions and electrochemistry; chemical kinetics.

Inorganic chemistry (units 9 to 12): classification of elements and periodicity in properties; p-block elements; d- and f-block elements; coordination compounds.

Organic chemistry (units 13 to 20): purification and characterisation of organic compounds; some basic principles of organic chemistry; hydrocarbons; organic compounds containing halogens; organic compounds containing oxygen; organic compounds containing nitrogen; biomolecules; principles related to practical chemistry.

There is no separate unit for s-block elements, states of matter, surface chemistry, polymers or environmental chemistry. Unit 20 is the practical unit. It covers detecting elements and functional groups, preparing compounds such as Mohr's salt and acetanilide, titrations with KMnO4, qualitative salt analysis for a listed set of cations and anions, and a few short experiments such as the enthalpy of neutralisation.

Chapter weightage: what is known and what is not

Here is what the official documents do tell you:

  • Every subject carries equal marks. Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry each have 25 questions and 100 marks out of 300.
  • There is no fixed number of questions per unit. Physics and Chemistry each have 20 units for 25 questions, and Mathematics has 14 units for 25 questions. The bulletin does not say how those questions are spread across units.
  • Each shift has its own paper. JEE Main is held in more than one shift in each session, and each shift gets a different question paper. A chapter count from one paper describes that paper only.

Given this, we have not printed a weightage table. Our advice is to build your own count, which is more useful than a borrowed one:

  1. Collect five or six recent shift papers, for example from our previous year papers page.
  2. For each question, write down the syllabus unit number it belongs to, using the unit lists above.
  3. Count the questions per unit across all the papers. Units that appear in almost every shift are your first priority. Units that appear only now and then still need at least the basics.

This takes a few hours, and it also shows you how NTA phrases questions in each unit.

How to use this for your 2027 preparation

  • Treat the 2027 syllabus PDF as the last word. If a book chapter is not in the official syllabus, it is not needed for Paper 1.
  • Do not skip the two practical units. Physics unit 20 and Chemistry unit 20 are short and clearly listed, so they are worth covering fully.
  • Plan around the dates. Session 1 is on 20, 21, 22, 23, 24 and 28 January 2027, and Session 2 is on 2 to 7 April 2027. The exam date page tracks the full schedule.
  • Practise in the real format. Each subject has 20 MCQs and 5 numerical questions, with −1 for a wrong answer in both. Numerical answers are entered as integers, rounded to the nearest whole number. The exam pattern guide explains this in detail, and a timed JEE Main maths mock test is a good way to find your weak units early.

How many chapters are there in the JEE Main 2027 syllabus?

The official syllabus is organised in units, not chapters: 14 in Mathematics, 20 in Physics and 20 in Chemistry for Paper 1, a total of 54 units.

Does NTA release official chapter-wise weightage for JEE Main?

No. NTA only fixes 25 questions and 100 marks per subject. Chapter-wise weightage figures online are estimates from past papers, not official data.

Where can I download the official JEE Main 2027 syllabus PDF?

On jeemain.nta.nic.in, where NTA has posted the 2027 syllabus PDF next to the JEE Main 2027 information bulletin.

Are mathematical induction and linear programming in the JEE Main 2027 syllabus?
